A Stone Floor Medallion

From Conception to Completion

After talking with the client we start with a sketch to define the key elements of the design.

Next we scan the sketch into a computer and smooth out the lines and arcs with CAD software.

We then radiate the design around a center point using CAD software giving the desired radial symetry. Next we create the center design and a simple border. The precision of the software enables us to creat the final artwork accurate to 1/10000". This precision art is saved as a ".DXF" file. This file is then imported into the appropriate cutting program and "tells" the machine exactly how fast and in what direction to cut, thus creating the final (in this case) stone medallion.

Finally we colorize a drawing to give the client a better idea of the final product.

Above is the finished cut medallion laid out for fit (not installed) on our studio floor.

(Note: The final color choices were made by the client)

Remember... The above example of creating a stone medallion is only an example.

This same process is applicable to glass, metal, wood or just about anything!
